“Get the most from your nurse” campaign
In recent years, family and community nurses in Spain are caring for more and more people, yet much of the population is unaware of what nurses do and how to access their services. This leads to a decrease in health promotion and prevention activities, early detection of health problems, as well as control of chronic diseases.
In order to address this, the Goya Health Centre in Madrid, Spain, launched a campaign to highlight how to get the most from your nurse. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the role and value of the family and community nurse to improve accessibility and important nursing role contributions from the beginning to the end of life. The campaign was carried out in health centres and through social networks with the aim of increasing awareness across all age groups.
Initially, the campaign reached out to the public to learn what they knew about the work of the family and community nurse. The next phase of the targeted campaign was geared to reach people through posters in health centres and videos on social networks. The campaign used light-hearted, friendly images and words to convey the message that family and community nurses take care of people and their families at all stages of life.
“We advise on measures to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. We help in the control of chronic diseases and prevention of complications. We value caregivers and their needs. We attend emergencies. We work with families in their environments. We have the knowledge to take care of you and empathy to be able to accompany you. We have also achieved empower teamwork and teammate engagement, discovering new talents.”
Get the most from your nurse doesn’t end here. The Goya Health Centre will continue to make informative videos and resources to help promote the role of the family and community nurse. We encourage other nursing colleagues to reproduce initiatives such as this – strengthening the family and community nursing and ties with the community.
